Ariana Grande is showing her peers ‘The Way’ it’s done. The ‘Sam & Cat’ starlet and singer opened up to Teen Vogue about her career, her public persona and how she deals with haters. (We’re surprised she has any, because she’s so awesome and down to earth!)

One thing Grande refuses to do is be fake for cameras. “I’m not like a little robot at all. I’m a real person,” she told Teen Vogue in her cover story (via Hollywood Life). “I don’t try to do things because they will look a certain way. I try to keep it real with my fans,” she added firmly.

As for her demure style and private online presence, contrary to whatever Miley Cyrus spouted in her New York Times profile, Grande just doesn’t want a ton of attention, so she keeps her clothes — and her lifestyle — pretty low key. “I’m a lot shier than people think. I don’t go online when I’m dealing with s—. This is a very amazing time in my life, but also the most stressful,” she admitted. “I’m adjusting and I’m learning.”

And for her haters? They don’t faze her now — but they used to. How did she get over it? “For a very long time it affected me,” Grande confessed of negative online commenters and cyber bullies. “And I was like, ‘But they don’t know the story!’ or ‘But they don’t know me!’ And my friends were like, ‘That’s the thing. They don’t know you and they never will. You can’t let a 12-year-old in Minnesota ruin your day!’” Amen, sister. Amen.
